Dug a hole in the backyard to plant a lilac tree, uncovered something that looked vaguely like bones (maybe it was just a root, it was bleached and reddened in spots and looked nothing like any plant I've ever seen, but then I am afraid of plants so maybe it was organic but just extremely creepy, like all of the other plants out back). The neighbours seem to know about the pending lawsuit and as friends of the former owners seem to be avoiding me. I bought a new chair which is too big for the room in which it was intended so it will have to go in the living room, this being the last purchase of plush furniture I will hopefully ever make...

So I've been told (and read in one history of early Dartmouth) that my house sits on the former site of a native burial ground, which I kind of believe but hope isn't true. At one time, it was also a rooming house (the evidence: many original doors with hooks and locks and industrial green paint stored in the basement, names written in the closets with years of room occupancy). The 1930's were not, as I had thought, a time of art deco detailing and lovely wood... I have green linoleum attached with some sort of icky tar to softwood (under the carpet). Good news today is that the original hardware for the long ago removed hot water rads is still in place, bad news: I was finally served, headed to small claims court in October (at least it will be all over)... the pictures: the doors in the basement, the badly decaying brick, the remains of the "garden" ...
