discovered tree roots next to the kitchen, which led to the surprising discovery that half of my kitchen is without a foundation (apparently built on some sort of now rotting flimsy wooden footings- have been told by non-idiot clean nova scotia building inspector that "being in your kitchen is just like sitting on the deck in the middle of winter" -no wonder it's so freaking cold!) -also: the attic is a mess (loose wires everywhere, improper insulation), the basement needs to be re-insulated properly (have ripped out a portion of the ceiling fibreglass already & the foam, which was a fire hazard) - it's actually freezing in here now & I've got the thermostat on 20 C - the only good thing is that the scary red stalks in the backyard are dying off (filled the green bin & 2 garbage bags so far, the plan is eradication) ...
